Unexpected Pauses

A Day In The Life | 0 comments

I’m so proud of my kids.

They’ve all learned the value of hard work, integrity and service.

I received a call from my youngest daughter around noon today.

She and her sister are wrapping up their first week of their fall college semester.

My youngest daughter had ran into some challenges with some of her school paperwork.

“Dad, the school won’t release the documents that need to be shared without you or mom’s signature.”

“And due to the risk of identity theft, they won’t accept a digital or electronic signature.”

“The bad news,” she said, “They need the signature today.”

I could sense some urgency in her voice.

“No problem,” I said.

“Mom and I are on our way.”

Thankfully we don’t live far from their school.

Only about an hour.

And, thankfully, I typically reserve Fridays for myself and my business.

And, thankfully, my wife and I have built businesses that give us the freedom and flexibility to call unexpected audibles.

Our kids are worth it.

My family is reason why I labored and hustled to build my design business.

I love my business, but it’s not my legacy.

My family is one of my greatest “Whys!”

I’m blessed.

I’m grateful.

And, I don’t regret the hard work that made today’s unexpected pause possible.

The hidden blessing…

My wife and I were able to take an impromptu road trip to see our youngest girls…

We were able to get our daughter the signatures she needed…

We were also able to share a meal with both of our daughters in between their school and work schedules.

I hope you have a “why” that propels you when the going gets tough.

Trust me, whatever it is…

It’s worth it.

Who saw you before you saw yourself?

Last week, I had the honor of judging the state-level Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge here in Kansas. It’s always inspiring to see the creativity and courage of young entrepreneurs, but what surprised me most wasn’t a pitch or a business idea.It was a man named...

I got in a car with no driver…

Earlier this week, I was in Phoenix for a mastermind event. It was exactly what I needed—time to recharge, reflect, plan, and hang with other business owners who just get it.But the real surprise?Wasn’t the strategy sessions or the brainstorms. It was the driverless car...
